Warm Turmeric Milk

turmeric milk

I posted this recipe on Instagram a few weeks back and it was very popular, so I’m posting here as well.  We love it, it’s simple and quick to make.

I originally came across a recipe similar to this in a magazine some time ago, but this is my toddler friendly version.  I’m certain the original has tea in it, but I have made it purely milk based so it’s perfect for the little ones as well.  I think its delicious and turmeric has a lot of health benefits such as; powerful anti-inflammatory effects and strong antioxidant properties.

The black pepper aids in the absorption of the turmeric so don’t skip it.

Warm Turmeric Milk

Servings 2

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk (animal or plant based)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cloves
  • Freshly ground black pepper - to taste
  • 1 teaspoon rice malt syrup (or other sugar-free sweetener)*optional

Instructions

  • Add all ingredient to a large saucepan and bring to the boil (watch it or it will boil over). Lower heat and simmer for about 15 minutes to allow the milk to infuse. Strain and serve warm. Add a little extra sweetener to suit your taste.

How interesting! I’ve never heard of turmeric milk. Since it has anti-inflammatory effects would it help with arthritis and joint issues? I have a torn meniscus in my knee from an old roller derby accident, most of the time it fine, but sometimes it flares up because of the weather and then its awful!

Hi Amy, I think it would be definitely worth a try. Check out the link below, they list a range of benefits and a major one is anti-inflammatory properties that can rival some medications. It can’t hurt and it tastes great regardless. xx
